Built in Germany by Hanse, then imported to the United States. This Hanse 588 is a performance cruiser, with a tall fractional Selden rig with three aft-swept spreaders, set up with a full-batten main, a self-tacking jib, a 105% genoa, and a custom-designed asymmetrical.
Rio re-designed and built a lengthened, widened bowsprit, transforming what was once a modest roller into a true working platform. The original 588 design didn't leave space for an asymmetrical, but with our extended teak-capped bowsprit, we’ve changed that. Now we can launch, set, and trim the kite effortlessly — transforming downwind sailing into pure horsepower. The sprit gives our off-wind sails cleaner air and better trim, keeps ground tackle clear of the hull, and provides safe footing when working forward. It’s functional, distinctive, and unmistakably ours.
Another customization Rio made is inside the sail locker which now features a workshop, well-organized storage space for everything from tools to dock lines, and a stainless work table.
Below deck, the sailboat has room for crew and space to enjoy life aboard on long distance voyages.
